Development and implementation of a classroom training for Body-in-White (BIW).

The main target of the training was to impart knowledge of processes and methods for body development (Body Engineering & Construction) to new engineers and employees of different departments.

Basics of the vehicle structure, the technical processes for the body development and also CAD-methods and guidelines have been presented.

The training was structured as follows:

  • Insight into vehicle structure, construction and component structure of the body (Body-in-White)
  • Explanation of the OEM´s release, change and product development processes
  • BIW production of the OEM and future-oriented technologies of other automotive manufacturers
  • Attributes in the body development (safety, stiffness/self-oscillation, durability etc.)
  • Tolerance management, CAE simulation
  • IT- architecture, software and data structure
  • OEM´s organisational structure
  • CAD method and design practise

The training was completed by visitation of the production plant and the CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment). The technical guided tours deepened the theoretical knowledge. The user group of CAD-designers was instructed in a second training module, in which the CAD relevant part was deepened and practical sessions at the CAD -system took place.

The elaboration was implemented by training skilled employees of various RLE departments: PLM (for CAD- and PDM methodology), CAE, Body Construction, Body Safety, Electrical and Powertrain. The training was realised by RLE specialists, who have in particular expertise in customer’s internal processes and PLM methods.

The customer achieved a target, efficient instruction in the body-engineering process for his employees by this compact 5-days-training. Them was facilitated the access to the new department by imparting the appropriate basics and processes.
